From the rugged coastline, sandy beaches and little coves of the Costa Brava to the wild and unspoilt beauty of the Catalan countryside and hills, this stunning corner of the world is perfect for ramblers who seek more than just a walk in nature. On this wonderful walking tour you will discover the art and culture of the stunning village of Cadaques, where Dali spent most of his life, the authenticity of the fishing villages of Palamos, Port de la Selva and Calella de Palafrugell, the eerie and marvellous landscape of the Cap de Creus Nature Reserve and the majestic monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes.

This walking holiday has been specifically designed to reveal many aspects of this beautiful part of Catalonia; you will walk along the “wild coast” with its miles of coastal cliffs, solitary beaches and coves with crystal clear water. You will walk through the Aiguamolls Nature Reserve where innumerable seabirds and songbirds have settled. You will walk up mountain trails offering spectacular views sweeping far into the Pyrenees.

You will have the chance to discover romanesque and gothic buildings, taste the exquisite local cuisine and  wines from the vineyards you have passed along the trail.

  • Day 1 Arrival
Arrival at Girona Airport or Girona station or Figueres train station or Palafrugell bus station (direct bus from airport to Palafrugell) from where you will be transferred to your accommodation in Calella de Palafrugell. The old centre of the town still retains the character of a typical Spanish coastal town with its bustling narrow streets and good selection of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. There are two small, popular beaches in the old town that add to the overall charm and atmosphere of the area.
  • Day 2 Palamós - Calella de Palafrugell
    15.0 km
Today you are going to cross the Natural Area of Castell-Cap Roig, which houses one of the last unspoilt corners of the Costa Brava, with some stunning creeks like Cala Estreta. We walk back through a fantastic example of Mediterranean woodland. This is one of the most spectacular stretches of the route since you will pass small coves, beaches of incomparable beauty and Mediterranean forests of pines, oaks and olive trees. This is a circular route that can be shortened by means of a transfer to Palamos, from where you walk back to Callella de Palafrugell (10 km)
  • Day 3 Calella de Palafrugell – Begur
    14.0 km
Today you will be treated to a wide variety of landscapes. The path penetrates into the Mediterranean forest, crosses small and virgin coves, goes along paths with breath-taking views of the Mediterranean Sea and gets into very charming villages like Llafranc or Tamariu. Your end destination today is Begur, a gem of a village with a great atmosphere.
  • Day 4 Cala Montjoi – Cadaqués
    10.0 km
In the morning, transfer to Roses (Cala Montjoi) where your walking day starts. You head off north into the Cap de Creus Natural Park, until you arrive at Cadaqués. Cadaqués is a beautiful whitewashed coastal town surrounded by mountains and was a favourite of both Picasso and Salvador Dalí where Salvador Dalí once famously said in 1920: “I have spent a delightful summer, as always, in the perfect and dreamy town of Cadaqués. There, alongside the Latin sea, I have been quenched by light and colour”.
  • Day 5 Cadaqués & Port Lligat
    8.0 km
On your free day in Cadaques, we give you various options to spend your time: You can explore the small winding alleyways with numerous art workshops , a visit to the parish church from the 17th century and stroll along the beachfront. Perhaps a walk to Port Lligat and Salvador Dalí's house/museum (to be booked and paid locally). You may want to walk to the Cap de Creus lighthouse and back.(16km). A beautiful hike to the most easterly point of the Iberian Peninsula, a spectacular cape. This daytour can be shortened by means of an eco-taxi who will take you to the lighthouse of Cap de Creus (8km).
  • Day 6 Cadaqués – Port de la Selva
    12.0 km
Leaving Cadaques you make your way north through the heart of the famous Cap de Creus National Park. You will follow a rural path with beautiful views of the Catalan countryside before arriving at El Port de la Selva. El Port de la Selva is outstanding for its varied landscapes, its beaches and its mountains. The first historic references to the settlement go back to 974, although it did not become a fully-fledged village until the 18th century, with the construction of its first church. The village retains the charm of a small fishing village and a great many monuments and historical buildings remain.
  • Day 7 Port de la Selva – Llançà
    14.0 km
Leaving El Port de la Selva behind, you travel South West ascending up to the Sant Pere de Rodes monastery Its origins date back to the first century after Christ. Christian doctrine understands Sant Pere de Rodes as one of the most important monasteries in Spain. You will then make your way up to the ruins of Castell de Sant Salvador, from here you will have a breathtaking view of the Alt Emporda, across to the Albera Mountains and far into the Pyrenees. You also have stunning views over the Bay of Roses and the entire Cap de Creus. You will then make your way down into the village Llançà. If you do not wish to climb up to the monastery, you can shorten the hike by following the coastal path (8km).
